About Landmark Credit Union

Landmark Credit Union’s story began in February 1933 when 66 employees at Chainbelt Company (later Rexnord) collected $219.50 and formed their own credit cooperative, named Rex #1. Shortly after Rex #2 was formed, and the two merged to create Chabelco Credit Union. The goal for this not-for-profit cooperative was to provide affordable financial services to its employees. The organization was run by volunteers until Joseph Woelfel was hired as the first, full-time employee in 1944.

In 1970, the first brick and mortar location opened, and by 1985, the credit union was offering financial solutions to people who lived or worked within Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. Over the years, the credit union’s name changed (Chabelco Credit Union, Rexnord Credit Union) but with membership now opened to the community, the name made its final evolution to Landmark Credit Union.

  • Volunteerism – As an organization that encourages volunteerism, Landmark offers paid volunteer time for associates. In fact, so far this year, associates have logged more than 2,000 volunteer hours.

  • Partnership with Non-Profits – For 30+ years, Landmark has worked with non-profit organizations such as Children’s Wisconsin and United Way to address some of the greatest needs within the communities it serves.

  • Local Connections – Landmark actively supports other community events as well, aligning with its long-standing history of “people helping people.”
